10 Reasons Why the New Myspace Logo Sucks (& 1 Why it Doesn’t)

While trying to avoid any unconstructive bashing of Myspace (I want to make valid points here not just have an unfair rant), it’s quite hard to articulate just how much of an epic fail I think the new logo really is. To avoid the easy rant, I’ve listed below the reasons why I feel disappointed in the new design, but just in case you don’t get to the bottom, I should point out I’ve not given up hope for them just yet.
Old logo:

New logo:

1. It’s vacated – The logo instantly …

Top 5 Chatroulette Marketing Campaigns

Chatroulette has been going strong since February this year, and while a few brands have dabbled with the tool over the past few months there hadn’t really been too many significant forays. After the Last Exorcism film campaign was reported on Mashable however, I felt it was maybe time to have a look back at some of the best that have came out over the past 6 months.
5. Dr Pepper

April Fools Day 2010, and a hot cheerleader promises a dance if the viewer performs embarrassing tasks. Only, the dance they …

One Site to Rule Them All: Will It Be ‘Miio’?

After a post on TheNextWeb, I thought I’d go over and check out the new social networking site Miio.  Like most people the last thing I want is another social networking site – they’re time consuming, don’t seem to offer any new value and take a long time before they become beneficial. But a really good social networking tool isn’t something you should have to adopt, it should be something that integrates into your life as easily as your first mobile phone.
The initial singular social networking wars are over (by …

Create an RSS feed for Your Twitter @Replies

I don’t use Hootsuite or Tweetdeck as I found it too much of an inconvenience to have a separate application open just for Twitter – it really needs to integrate seamlessly, as the less it feels like I’m using it, the more I actually can use it without encroaching on the other stuff I’m doing. So I have a feed on my Netvibes homepage and use Tweetline to keep a constant updating feed in Firefox. Problem was I was finding it frustrating that there wasn’t an easy way to keep …

Is Geek Chic? – Analysis of The New Dork Jay-Z spoof

Are geeks now cool? If so why, and who exactly thinks they’re cool? It certainly seems that geek is beginning to have it’s day, but I think we may be getting a little ahead of ourselves.
Teenage self made millionaires/ billionaires are not something the previous generations were very familiar with. The digital landscape nowadays has a lot in common with that of the Wild West in the 1800s. It’s a Gold Rush where the romantic allure of stumbling across your millions seems tantalisingly easy. Like then, those with the tools …

Can we advertise on a real-time platform? (and compete with humans?)

The point of Paid Search advertising is it isn’t an interruptive form of advertising but it’s actually supportive of the Organic listings – It’s purpose is to plug up the holes that SEO can’t reach – it improves upon the experience and is ‘good’ advertising. So in this way the new Twitter ad platform can be considered a benefit to Twitter’s current search service. But the reason Twitter search has taken off as such a valuable alternative to Google is that the listings are in real-time and from people. Users …

Macsween Haggis gets the launch campaign spot on

Storm ID are currently in the midst of a fantastic launch campaign for Macsween’s Haggis in a Minute. I was fortunate enough to win a free pack of the Haggis back at the start of the month by being one of the first 500 to enter my details to the site. It was a sure win, and at the time I thought it was a great idea to get me engaged and talking about the brand. A few days later, and I get this through the door:

That’s ten packets! I …

Twitter needs unobstructive access for everyone

For the communications on Twitter to flow freely, there has to be a minimum amount of obstruction, and from a user perspective this means the interface. There seems to be a great level of ignorance or at least naivety surrounding the masses of tools there are available to make accessing Twitter as streamlined as possible.
My all time absolute favourite method is the Firefox plugin TweetLine. Updated tweets from your Following list rotate just under the address bar like a news ticker, and a one click drop-down box appears at the …

Chatroulette is anything but strange

Chatroulette for anyone unaware is a one on one video chartroom, randomly generated from around the world. In other words, you immediately get confronted with a stranger peering into your environment and vice versa.
The service has received an understandable distance from a lot of people, considering it to be just a bit too voyeuristic and creepy. Similarly to how Twitter was and still is accepted by a wide range of people, Chatroulette has been disregarded as the reserve of the lonely and narcissistic.
But in reality this impression stems from the …
